A specialist R&D facility represents an investment in infrastructure, capability and long-term value.
For the private investment firm behind Polestar’s Coventry facility, ProfotoDesign was commissioned to create a considered photographic record of the property and the environment within it.
The brief was to communicate more than the presence of a substantial industrial building. The photography needed to reveal the quality of the architecture, the sophistication of the working environment and the scale of the asset, creating imagery that could support investor communications, asset reporting, marketing and future property activity.

Understanding the asset, its purpose and what gives it character.
Before photographing the facility, ProfotoDesign considered the property from the perspective of its owner and investor. A specialist R&D environment needs to be understood not only through its physical structure, but through the way its architecture, infrastructure and spaces support highly technical operations.
This understanding shaped the photographic approach. The facility combines large-scale industrial and engineering spaces with contemporary workplace, meeting and communal environments. Together, these elements communicate the quality, capability and character of the property.
The objective was therefore to create a visual record that reflects the complete asset — its architecture, scale, functionality and the quality of the environment provided for its occupier.

Finding the architectural character within a complex industrial environment.
The challenge with photographing a working R&D facility is that there is considerable visual complexity. Structure, services, equipment and technical infrastructure all form part of the environment.
Rather than attempting to remove this complexity, ProfotoDesign used it to establish the character of the space.
Perspective, geometry and natural light were used to create order within expansive interiors, while carefully considered viewpoints reveal the relationship between the architecture, infrastructure and the people who use it.
The photography also explores the contrast between the facility’s technical industrial spaces and its more refined contemporary interiors. Meeting areas, circulation spaces and communal environments sit alongside engineering facilities, creating a broader architectural story than an industrial building alone might suggest.
The result is a visual language that presents the facility as both highly functional infrastructure and a sophisticated contemporary workplace.

The final images capture the scale and functionality of the R&D facility while bringing forward the architectural qualities that might otherwise be lost within a highly technical environment.
