The Oliver Bonas store at St. Mary’s Gate, Manchester, is a distinctive three-storey retail environment combining architecture, interior design and brand identity.
For the investment company behind the property, the quality of the space and its relationship with its occupier are important aspects of the asset. ProfotoDesign was commissioned to photograph the completed
store, creating a considered visual record of the property and the environment created for Oliver Bonas.
The brief was to capture more than the finished retail interior. The photography needed to communicate the scale, quality and design of the space while creating a versatile visual asset for the investment company.

The character of a retail property is shaped by the relationship between the building and the business operating within it. For the St. Mary’s Gate store, understanding that relationship was central to the photographic approach.
Oliver Bonas has created a highly distinctive environment across the three floors, using colour, materials, fixtures, displays and merchandising to create a strong sense of identity.
ProfotoDesign considered how these elements interact with the underlying architecture and how the space is experienced as customers move through it.
The objective was to photograph the property as a complete environment — recognising the contribution of the occupier's design while maintaining a clear focus on the qualities, scale and presentation of the underlying asset.

Balancing brand, architecture and the experience of space.
A successful retail interior contains a considerable amount of visual information. Products, displays, colour and branded elements compete for attention, while the architecture provides the framework that holds everything together.
ProfotoDesign approached the photography by finding a balance between these layers. Wider compositions reveal the scale, proportions and flow of the store, while more intimate views draw attention to materials, fixtures, colour and the details that give the environment its character.
Rather than photographing the store simply as a branded retail space, the images explore how the design works within the building — showing the relationship between architecture, interior, occupier and customer experience.
This creates a visual narrative that communicates both the distinctive Oliver Bonas environment and the quality of the commercial property behind it.

The resulting photography provides the investment company with a considered visual record of the property at a significant stage in its lifecycle — occupied, operational and fully realised as a retail environment.
The image library can support investor communications, asset reporting, presentations, marketing, publications and future property activity, while providing a lasting record of the relationship between the building and its occupier.
For an investment company, this makes the photography more than a record of a completed fit-out. It becomes a visual reference for the quality, presentation and commercial character of the asset.
ProfotoDesign's role was to create imagery that captures the property as it exists in use: a carefully designed retail environment, a strong expression of the Oliver Bonas brand and, ultimately, a valuable commercial asset.
