Project brief.
Document the sensitive restoration of Flimston Chapel, capturing the character of this historic building while demonstrating the natural slate used in its renewed roof. The photography needed to convey both the craftsmanship involved and the chapel’s relationship with its wider setting.
Purpose.
The commission formed part of SSQ Natural Slate’s ongoing programme of project documentation, providing a visual case study for marketing and annual award submissions. The aim was to show the slate as part of a completed heritage restoration rather than simply as a standalone building material.
Deliverables.
Architectural photography, video and aerial imagery documenting the restored chapel, its roof, architectural details and wider landscape. Elevated photography was particularly important in revealing the extent and scale of the site.
Outcome.
A visual case study that connects material quality with heritage craftsmanship. The resulting imagery gives SSQ a distinctive record of its slate within a historic restoration project, while aerial perspectives add context and a stronger sense of the chapel’s setting and scale.
